Applications
The Van Alstyne Police Department will only accept applications when the department has advertised to fill a vacancy.  Employment notices will be placed in the local and area newspapers, as well as, the website.  The Department does accept applications on a daily basis for non-paid officers.

Requirements for Police Officer
All applicants must meet the requirements below before being considered for a Police Officer position.
▪  High School Diploma or G.E.D. (minimum)
▪  21 years of age at the time of application
▪  U.S. Citizenship
▪  Valid Texas Driver's License
▪  No Criminal History above Class B
▪  If applicable, Military Service with an Honorable Discharge
▪  Must be TCLEOSE Certified

Hiring Process
If considered for employment, you will undergo the following:
▪  Preliminary Application
▪  Background Investigation
▪  Interview Board
▪  Interview with Chief of Police

Pay Schedule
Our competitive pay schedule is available upon request at Van Alstyne City Hall. 903-482-5426.
Our officers also receive the following additional pay:
- Paid Holidays
- Police Intermediate Certificate: $900.00 per year/$75.00 per month/$34.63 P/P
- Police Advanced Certificate: $1,400.00 per year/$116.67 per month/$55.38 P/P
- Special Certificate Pay*: $50.00 per month/$600.00 per year:
      ▪  Intoxilyzer Certificate
      ▪  Firearm Instructor
      ▪  Crime Prevention Certificate
      ▪  TCLEOSE Instructor Certificate

* All specialized training pay must be approved by the Chief of Police

Benefits
The Van Alstyne Police Department offers a competitive benefit plan. The City of Van Alstyne pays for major health, prescription cards, and vision for all it's employees. The City also covers 50% of the cost to cover a family for major medical and prescription cards with an option to purchase vision coverage for a family at the employees expense.
