Officer Gerald Smith was born in Sherman, TX and graduated from Sherman High School in 1990. He attended Grayson County College where he majored in music and engineering. Officer Smith became interested in law enforcement in 1992 through friends that were in the field. He graduated as class Vice President and placed second in his class from the Texoma Regional Police Academy in 1999. Officer Smith began his law enforcement career with the Pottsboro Police Department as a reserve officer. He then joined the Sherman Police Department and in August 2000 took a full-time position with the Van Alstyne Police Department. Officer Smith is married and enjoys spending time with family and friends. He also enjoys outdoor activities and gunsmithing.
